The agreement was signed in the presence of HE Engr. Sheikh Salem Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, chairman, Department of Civil Aviation, Ras Al Khaimah and chairman of RAK International Airport. Under the terms of the contract, GAL will provide RAK International Airport with a full array of air traffic control services, from manning to the analysis of standards, procedures and facilities at the airport. This will ensure that delegated authorities and operational requirements are met and that maximum effort is made to ensure flight safety.

Airport chief executive, Andrew Gower, said: “RAK International Airport has been experiencing exponential growth. It is important that we continue to focus our efforts on operating the airport in accordance with the highest international standards and service, anchored on safety, security, and customer satisfaction. A fundamental part of our ongoing development plan included a full review of our air traffic services provision.

“In GAL we have found the right service partner that shares our vision and commitment to service and believes in the potential of Ras Al Khaimah as a rising emirate. GAL has a proven track record and reputation in the industry and brings a wealth of experience to the venture which, when coupled with our regional presence, will provide a new level of service and expertise," he added.

As part of the contract, RAK International Airport and GAL have agreed to work closely together to improve efficiency and standardisation to enhance all air traffic services at the airport. The agreement also involves an extensive Emiratisation plan developed by GAL, which will eventually see Emiratis responsible for air traffic control operations at the airport, effectively providing employment opportunities to the local community.

Dr. Hassan Yousuf Al Awadhi, CEO at GAL, said: “Global Aerospace Logistics welcomes the mutual cooperation with RAK International Airport to enhance air traffic services, which will ensure flights operate safely and efficiently in our airspace. GAL will work hand in hand with RAK International Airport to provide world-class services.”

Headquartered in Abu-Dhabi, GAL is the first UAE service provider to deliver aerospace services, which had been outsourced since 1947.  The contract with RAK International Airport provides a strategic footprint for GAL to expand into the civilian market, initially in the UAE and ultimately within the GCC region.
