Oman Airports see growth with flydubai and Oman Air adding routes

Passenger traffic at Muscat International Airport increased by 15 per cent during the first four months of this year, as compared to last year's figures, while Salalah Airport achieved 11 per cent rise in the same period.

Statistics issued by the Air Transport Department at the Civil Aviation Affairs at the Transport and Communications suggest that increased routes from flydubai and OmanAir have led to the increase,

The Oman News Agency reported the ministry as saying total passenger traffic (including transit and transferred passengers through Muscat International Airport) increased to 2,040,917 passengers till the end of April 2011 compared to 1,773,374 passengers for the corresponding period in 2010.

In terms of air cargo traffic at Muscat International airport, statistics indicate a slight increase in the total volume of unloaded and loaded freight by 0.36 per cent (with the total volume of shipments standing at 30,744 tonnes, compared to 30,635 tonnes in during the corresponding period in 2010.


Salalah Airport achieved an increase of 11 per cent in the total number of arriving and departing passengers. The total stood at 155,628 passengers till April 2011, compared to 139,897 passengers during the corresponding period in 2010. Freight traffic registered 10 per cent increase in terms of total loading and unloading of shipments which stood at 429 tonnes, compared to 390 tonnes
