Despite this, the region’s busiest airport reported 6% year-on-year growth in passenger numbers to 5.01 million in July, compared with 4.72 million posted last year. This is the first time Dubai has passed the five million mark in a single month.

In a statement it said that the largest increase was recorded on routes to and from western Europe, Africa and Asia.  Regions with the highest percentage growth included South America, Russia and Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

Australian traffic also grew as aircraft movements for July grew by 2.4% to 27,800, while cargo volumes at the airport increased 6.2% to 205,000t.
