Airport Show: Cavotec wins Dubai Concourse 3 deal

The engineering company has been awarded a multimillion dirham contract by leading constructionn contractor ALEC to supply, supervise installation and commissioning of 58 Cavotec pre-conditioned air (PCAir) and 400Hz power Pop-Up pit systems. Delivery is due to start in Q3 this year, with commissioning planned for 2012.
Ed Christie, Aviation Sales Manager Middle East, said: "Our systems take the utilities underground, away from the aircraft. We can reduce the number of mobile units working around the aircraft from 15 to seven. This improves security, reduces traffic on the apron, simplifies logistics, gives greater operational efficiency and improves the airport's bottom line, giving a greater net profit."
The units are designed for use with many aircraft types, especially for the superjumbo Airbus A380. Eighteen of Concourse 3's 20 stands will be built for use with the superjumbo, making it the world's largest A380 terminal.
Christie said: "Cavotec PCAir compressed air technology is the only technology worldwide that can cool a Code F aircraft in the ambient temperatures of the Gulf region. Cooling the A380 is a challenge, as Airbus has reduced the permissable mass flow into the aircraft. Therefore we provide subfreezing air, which is 98.9% dry. The reduction in humidity ensures the greater passenger comfort, even at slightly higher temperatures."
The announcement comes during Cavotec Middle East's 11th participation in the Dubai Airport Show.
