The International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) Global Implementation Support Symposium (GISS) will be held alongside with the Sustainable Aviation Futures (SAF) MENA Congress and the inaugural Global Sustainable Aviation Marketplace, bringing together global leaders to shape the future of sustainable aviation.

The three-day event, taking place at the Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental, is expected to attract over 1,500 aviation professionals from 193 ICAO member states, according to the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA). Held under the patronage of Dubai’s vice president, prime minister and ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the event underscores the UAE’s pivotal role in shaping the future of global aviation.

GISS will convene ministers from various regions to explore the intersection of aviation sustainability and artificial intelligence (AI). Discussions will focus on how advanced technologies are reshaping airspace management, enhancing safety protocols and promoting environmental stewardship. A key priority will be advancing ICAO’s ‘No Country Left Behind initiative’, ensuring equitable progress in aviation sustainability worldwide.

A key highlight of this year’s GISS is the introduction of the Global Sustainable Aviation Marketplace, a dedicated networking platform where industry stakeholders can engage with cutting-edge solutions and strategies for aviation sustainability. Concurrently, the SAF MENA Congress will delve into global SAF policies, emerging technologies, regional and global SAF hub development, as well as financing and investment opportunities, all aimed at mapping SAF strategies for 2025.

The GCAA has already secured the support of 33 key partners for the event. His Excellence Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director General of the GCAA emphasised the significance of the event, stating the strong support from partners “reflects its importance in making significant strides in international efforts toward a more sustainable aviation system.”

He added that as a flagship event on ICAO’s agenda, GISS addresses global initiatives to enhance aviation safety, security and sustainability. “The UAE’s role as host of this massive event is of special significance, particularly with the launch of the first edition of the Global Sustainable Aviation Marketplace, aimed at uniting global efforts to achieve sustainable development goals in the aviation sector.”

Al Suwaidi reaffirmed that GISS remains central to ICAO’s mission of fostering a safer, more secure, and environmentally responsible aviation sector. He concluded by underlining the urgent need for innovative solutions to enhance industry efficiency and reduce its environmental footprint.

As the aviation industry strives for sustainability, Abu Dhabi’s pioneering three-day event promises to be a catalyst for meaningful change, bringing together global leaders to chart a course toward a greener future for aviation.
