Originally founded by ICAO in 1992 as the Trainair programme, the TrainAir Plus programme has been significantly improved to count the world’s foremost aviation centres among its members.

A statement from Turkish Aviation Academy said: "The ICAO TrainAir Plus programme sets training standards for aviation professionals. After the completion of a revision process that began in 2010, it now addresses the needs of the adaptable and rapidly growing aviation industry. With the introduction of the new programme, ICAO has ensured, once again, that TrainAir Plus will continue to play a significant role for aviation training centres to develop course materials and share this content in an international platform.

"The largely revised course development procedures and requirements, the library that facilitates the sharing of Standard Course Packages and the self-sufficient budget mechanism of the TrainAir Plus programme, bring a new approach to aviation training. This approach also overlaps with the newly instituted training policies of ICAO and with the NGAP (Next Generation of Aviation Professionals) initiative. Governments and training centres agree that this new approach will lead to high quality training programmes and ultimately be of great benefit to civil aviation."
