Dubai Airshow: UAE SELECTS PILATUS AND SAAB IN DOUBLE DEFENCE DEAL

The air force will take 25 of the single engine turboprop Swiss trainers valued at just over $518m. The deal announced at the Dubai Air Show will inlclude the provision of simulators and training systems.
The first aircraft will be delivered to Abu Dhabi in the fourth quarter of 2011 with the remainder following before the end of the first quarter of 2012.
The long-awaited decision on the country's airborne early warning system was also announced this afternoon with the order for two Saab 340 aircraft. as an interim solution. The UAE is considering several alternatives for the long-term including Northrop Grumman, Boeing and Saab platforms.
The contract is valued at $220m and includes systems, training and MRO.
