Cambridge Airport wins first Middle East ATC Training Contract for three Oman airports

The service is being delivered through its strategic partnership with Aerospace Resources Limited and Silver Falcon in Oman.
This is the first ATC Training contract from a Middle East customer for Cambridge Airport, whose current clients include UK airports, such as Shoreham and Blackpool International. The airport has chosen to capitalise on its expertise operating as a UK CAA Category 7 airport with full ATC cover to become an industry leader in providing outsourced training in a range of Airport Services, which also encompass Rescue and Fire Fighting, Airport Aviation Security, Air Traffic Engineering and Pilot Training.
Through a consultancy arrangement the highly experienced two man team from Cambridge Airport will train approximately 24 people in Oman over a four month period, from February to April this year. The training will take the participants to Flight Information Services Officer (FISO) level. The ATC officers will then staff the three airports, which are located in the interior of Oman to support the company’s oil and gas exploration and production.
Archie Garden, Airport Director, said: “This is a significant contract for Cambridge Airport, underlining our world class expertise in ATC Training and our strategy of offering more flexible consultancy based contracts to meet the growing demand from new airports for training in all the key airport services. Building on this capability is part of the overarching vision for Cambridge Airport to become a fully commercial, self-standing business”.
Cambridge Airport has entered 2011 with an ambitious plan to create a leading aviation hub in the east of England. With significant investment already made in a stylish FBO, increased hangarage capacity and a new GPS approach to complement its ILS system, the airport functions as a fully fledged commercial aviation operation. No slot restrictions, full Category 7 fire & ATC status and 24/7 operational capability enables Cambridge Airport - formerly known as Marshall Airport Cambridge - to focus on growing its executive aviation potential and developing other niche, commercial aviation opportunities, including airport services training.
