MTU Aero Engines to take stake in GE's new turbine

MTU Aero Engines have taken a 13% stake as a risk- and revenue-sharing partner in the development and production of the turbine, derived from the CF6 engine.

 

The stake in the project will translates into expected revenues of approximately one billion euros over the lifecycle of the program.

 

“It makes us proud that GE is relying on our expertise again for the successor to the LM6000-PF,” said Michael Schreyögg, MTU aero engines chief program officer, “We’ve had a program share in the current LM6000 product family since 1990. This new opportunity now allows us to further strengthen our relationship with GE.”

 

The new PF+ engine offers reliability of greater than 99%, and has a low-emission combustor that builds on experience from GE’s fleet of LM6000 variants.

 

The PF+ delivers between 52 and 58 megawatts of power, and delivers more exhaust gas energy for combined-cycle cogeneration processes.

 

The enhanced turbine was achieved by using improved materials and technological innovations that are already incorporated on GE’s CF6-80C2 and -80E1.

 

Entry of the LM6000-PF+ units is planned for the third quarter of 2016.
