On March 11 2016, Air Mauritius has opered its first direct Mauritius-Singapore flight marking the launch of ‘The Air Corridor’. As from today, three direct flights per week are scheduled on Singapore (Monday, Wednesday and Friday). “The Air Corridor” aims at improving air connectivity between Mauritius and Singapore in order to stimulate the growth of passenger and cargo traffic between Asia and Africa through these two hubs.

Furthermore, in order to feed the African side of the ‘Air Corridor’, Air Mauritius is expanding its operations in Africa with two new destinations as from May this year, namely Dar es Salaam and Maputo.

“The Air Corridor” project is an initiative of the Mauritian Government following the signature of a collaboration agreement between Air Mauritius and Changi Airport in October 2015. It aims at generating air traffic that would boost the flux of tourism and business between the two continents.

The architecture of the “Air Corridor”
The “Air Corridor” uses the Mauritius-Singapore trunk route connecting the 2 hubs which are themselves linked to feeder routes from Africa/Southwest Indian Ocean region on the Mauritius side, and the Asian region on the Singapore side.
The “Air Corridor” has four main modules:
a) The Mauritius-Singapore route and vice versa (the “trunk route”);
b) The Asia-Mauritius route and vice versa with connections to Asian cities through the hub at Changi Airport in Singapore;
c) The Africa/southwest Indian Ocean to Singapore route and vice versa, with connections to Singapore in Mauritius. The reverse route operating from Singapore towards Africa may, in certain instances, include a one-night stopover in Mauritius.
d) Routes from Asia to Africa and vice versa which involves holidays in two or more points along the road (two-centre holidays).
