ABU DHABI: LODD partners with Skyports to unveil vertiport concept for UAE
Vertiport developer, Skyports, is collaborating with LODD, a UAE-based company specialising in AI-powered drone technology and autonomous aerial logistics, to unveil designs for a vertiport network in Abu Dhabi.
Speaking at the event on Tuesday, Rashid Al Manai, CEO of Lodd, shared that he is expects an RFP for the project to be issued by the government by the end of the month. Subject to approval, he anticipates Lodd’s vertiport network could be developed within two years.
Lodd has already identified key locations for its vertiport network including Khalifa Port, envisioned as a logistics hub, designed to enable seamless cargo deliveries with both manned and unmanned aircraft. A second vertiport development is also planned on Yas Island’s existing heliport, which will be upgraded to support passenger transport with both helicopters and eVTOLs.
“We are delighted to formalise this strategic agreement with Skyports,” said, Al Manai during the signing ceremony on Tuesday. “We worked with them on a four-month feasibility study before deciding to leverage their expertise in vertiport infrastructure.”
As the Middle East accelerates the development of its Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) sector, Al Manai attributed this progress to strong leadership and effective collaboration among key stakeholders
However, while challenges such as charging infrastructure need to be addressed, he noted that the “biggest hurdle is achieving eVTOL certification and scaling their deployment.”
