Airbus offers “Xtra Large Bizjet”
The European consortium, Airbus, has rolled out ACJ TwoTwenty “Xtra Large Bizjet” (XLB) as a promising business jet. Kaleyesus Bekele reports.
The first historical Airbus Corporate Jet (ACJ) ACJ TwoTwenty entered into service in 2023. To date, there are 9 ACJ 220 orders.
More than 200 Airbus corporate jets are currently in service today. Airbus said Business jets are part of the Airbus commercial aircraft portfolio (ACJ), as such they benefit from all the latest technology investments and advancements as developed on any Airbus commercial aircraft.
“At ACJ, we noticed the growing demand for more personal space: bizjet cabins increased by 30 to 40% over the last 20 years, but no bizjet was offering the combination of intercontinental range and extra-large personal space. We are addressing that market demand,” the company said.
The aircraft is creating a whole new market segment, the 'Xtra Large Bizjet,' by emphasising cabin space, range and technology at a similar price point to ultra-long-range jets.
According to Airbus, the ACJ TwoTwenty stands out for offering more than double the cabin space of traditional long-range business jets. With over 786 square feet of floor space, the expansive six-zone cabin is where the ACJ TwoTwenty really shines.
“With two extra cabin zones for additional privacy, you can work in a true office environment with best-in-class connectivity or unwind and revitalise with a California King bed, en suite bathroom with rain shower, and two 55-inch 4K TVs.”
Even with twice the cabin space of ultra-long-range business jets (ULR), ACJ TwoTwenty has lower operating costs due to reduced maintenance and training costs. Powered by Pratt & Whitney GTF engines, ACJ TwoTwenty has embraced a fuel-efficient aviation technology. According to Pratt and Whitney, the GTF engines are designed for lower fuel burn and CO2 emissions, lowering costs, and reducing impact on the environment.
Airbus claims that with a range of up to 5,650 nm (more than 12 flight hours), ACJ TwoTwenty can meet the requirements of 99.9% of all U.S. departures,1 connecting city pairs including Los Angeles to London, Miami to Buenos Aires and New York to Istanbul.
“With ongoing testing activities, namely to improve performance, and several software upgrades, we are continuously enhancing the A220 platform to keep offering our growing customer base the best small single-aisle aircraft on the market. We have a great vision for the A220 and we are confident that the Programme is destined to great success,” the company concluded.
Airbus manufactures the A220 aircraft in its FAL in Mobile, Alabama and Mirabel, Quebec. In 2024, the company unveiled a new Flight and Integration Test Center based in Mirabel and early this year, it looks forward to launching the new A220 delivery centre in the same premise.
