Air Burkina to be restructured

The carrier was taken over by the Burkinabe state in May this year following the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development's (AKFED) divestiture. It currently operates a fleet of just two EMB-170s, leased from WNG Capital, which it uses on domestic flights to Bobo Dioulasso locally as well as Abidjan, Accra, Bamako, Cotonou, Dakar, Lomé, and Niamey regionally.

"We are in the midst of restructuring the state-owned company of Air Burkina. In the meantime, we are in discussion with all major manufacturers, all aircraft manufacturers," Minister of Transport, Souleymane Soulama, told the Sidwaya newspaper on the occasion of a Bombardier (BBA, Montréal Trudeau) sales pitch. "That's why we received Gérald Cornu from Bombardier, which manufactures turboprop aircraft that are of great interest to us because they consume less, perform better and are very suitable."
