Qatar developing independent company to run expanding airport

The hub – which opened in 2014 and is the airline’s home base – currently serves 30,000 passengers.
Last month the airport announced plans to press ahead with an expansion plan which will see a new Concourse F added to the existing terminal, increasing capacity to 65 million passengers annually.
The airport already has one of the largest free span maintenance hangars in the world, a two-storey cargo facility, and a self-contained catering facility.
It has already been part of the Qatar Airways Group but in order to separate from the airline operation the decision was made to develop the new company as an independent entity.
There has been no announcement as to who will be leading the new company and what the relationship will be with the national carrier.
The new expansion will be open to international tender.
