Nouakchott-Oumtounsy International Airport opens
Nouakchott-Oumtounsy International Airport has opened, with Nouakchott International Airport closing to all traffic.

The first commercial flight to use the airfield was a Turkish Airlines flight from Istanbul Atatürk, with the last flight to the previous airfield being a Royal Air Maroc flight to Casablanca International.
The old airfield has been handed over to contractor Najah for Major Works (NMW), as part of the payment agreement with the Mauritanian government.
The new airport can handle two million passengers per year, and has a freight terminal, four jetways, a VIP reception area, and a pair of runways.
