Muscat witnesses rapid growth ahead of airport development

Muscat International Airport continues to be under strain as passenger numbers continue to increase as construction of new terminal buildings are still awaited.

Salalah Airport in Oman’s southern province is also witnessing dramatic increases oin throughput ahead of development work.

The country’s department for civil aviation affairs reported yesterday that the total passenger traffic (including transit & transfer passengers) through the capital’s airport   increased by 13 per cent to 6,479,860 passengers for the period ending December 2011 compared to 5,751,516 passengers for the same period the previous year.

The number of passengers staying within Oman also increased by 15% with 3.276 million entering the country through Muscat International
