The NOTAM - information given to pilots and operations staff for any changes that may affect flights - said the new Hamad international airport becomes "operational" from 04:00UTC (7:00 Doha time) on April 30th.

The NOTAM reported that only one runway, 16L/34R, will be operational.

Sources in Doha suggest that the airport will initially be used by up to ten low-cost carriers. The airport almost opened in December 2012 but was suspended at the last minute over meeting certain international standards.
