First passenger jet touches down at St Helena
The first passenger jet, a Boeing 737-800, has landed at St Helena's Airport.

The aircraft is the one that will be used on the St Helena – Johannesburg route.
British Airways operated the implementation flight with Comair, Basil Read and other passengers, and spare parts to remain on the island.
“The flight itself was a ‘non-event’ - beautiful over the sea with a fantastic view of the Island coming into land. As you will have seen we did a few practice approaches just to make sure we understood the approach - safety is always paramount,” said Martin Louw, operations director, Comair.
The flight was used to judge route assessment, airside operations, passenger and cargo handling, training and various aspects of safety at the airport.
