ATR signs deal for 20 aircraft for Iran. First aircraft next month

The first four aircraft will be delivered to Tehran within the next month, with the remainder being delivered on a progressive basis from then on.

Iran, which had been prohibited from buying new Western-built aircraft for nearly 40 years through trade sanctions, signed contracts with Airbus and U.S. rival Boeing last year to purchase about 180 jets after the sanctions were lifted in exchange for Iran curbing its nuclear program.
While the Airbus and Boeing aircraft are primarily targeted for the long haul and extended regional business, there was recognition that Iran’s burgeoning domestic market also needed urgent renewals
Iran Air and ATR have spent months negotiating the proposed order for the 20 ATR 72-600 aircraft, with options for another 20.
Industry sources had claimed the final deal has been held up due to uncertainty over some export licences for spare engines made by Pratt & Whitney Canada.
