ATR consolidates its leading position among regional aircraft manufacturers in 2016
In 2016, ATR reached its second-highest turnover ever (US$ 1.8 billion), and its third-highest year in terms of deliveries (80 aircraft), confirming the appetite of the market for modern turboprops. The aircraft manufacturer also secured a healthy backlog, guaranteeing about three years of production.
In 2016, ATR achieved a major contract to introduce ATR -600s in the promising market of Argentina with Avian Lineas Aéreas, thus underlining its key role to structure and develop regional links. ATR also received renewed confidence from nearly 30-year-long operators Aeromar (Mexico) and Binter (Spain), plus additional orders from Papua New-Guinea’s PNG Air and Brazil’s Azul Linhas Aéreas.
ATR’s chief executive officer Christian Scherer said: “ATR remained the preferred choice of regional airlines in 2016, despite a globally difficult year in the regional aircraft market. As the environment is getting tougher, the economic advantages and the market liquidity of the ATR aircraft versus its competitors prove to be the basis of our success.”
