TATV Defence Monthly: Russian manufacturers extending reach

Russian manufacturers are extending their reach into the emerging markets - and at the MAKS show in Moscow this month there were hints that a new fifth-generation fighter jet could be heading to India or the UAE.

This month’s defence show for Arabia, Africa and South Asia takes a close look at the growing Russian interest in the region with defence editor Jon Lake analysing the prospects for the Sukhoi T-75 and Indian defence correspondent Jay Menon giving the India view along with updates on new orders for Mig-29s from the Lukhovitsky factory’s storage facility.

Africa can also expect replacement aircraft with South Africa’s Armscor undertaking a refurbishment and upgrading programme to dispose of surplus UK RAF aircraft with South Africa defence correspondent Sam Basch reporting that the deal – some two years in the making – will ensure no products are simply dumped into the African market without being properly refurbished, upgraded and maintained.

The programme also brings updates on Qatar’s plans for training in UK and Italy, for Russian Helicopters joint ventures with the UAE and Turkey’s latest training exercise.
