Ethiopian Airlines flight ET-702 hijacked by co-pilot

Ethiopian Airlines flight ET-702 is believed to have been hijacked by its co-pilot during a flight from Addis Ababa to Rome this morning while the pilot went to the toilet, reports the BBC.

The co-pilot is believed to have locked the pilot out of the cockpit on a flight from Addis Ababa to Rome. He then flew to Switzerland and demanded that he be allowed to land at Geneva where he asked for asylum before being arrested. 

All passengers and crew have been safely evacuated. 

Ethiopian Airlines announced on its website: “Ethiopian Airlines flight ET-702 on scheduled service departing from Addis Ababa on 17 February 2014 at 00:30 (local time) scheduled to arrive in Rome at 04:40 (local time) was forced to proceed to Geneva Airport. Accordingly, the flight has landed safely at Geneva Airport. All passengers and crew are safe at Geneva Airport. 

“Ethiopian Airlines is making immediate arrangements to fly its esteemed customers on-board the flight to their intended destinations.”
