Air Namibia approves acquisition of six Embraer airliners

Works Ministry Permanent Secretary Willem Goeiemann said the details of the board decision would soon be discussed at ministry level.
The purchase includes two Brazilian-made Embraer ERJ-135s and four Embraer X-ERJ- 145s at a cost of almost N$200 million.
The new aircraft will likely be used to replace four ERJ-135s that Air Namibia operates on lease from private aviation company West-Air Aviation.
The company also operates four leased Airbus A319-100s to service regional routes. The ERJ 135s services domestic routes.
Air Namibia has opted to buy aircraft at between N$19 and N$26 million each in order to cut leasing costs of up to N$234m per annum.
